Officially founded in 1897, this southern Dominican Republic port town owes its development to the installation of a large sugar cane mill built by Italian immigrants some twenty years later. It was first established in 1851 to facilitate maritime traffic, meaning the port has played a key role in the region's economic development. Boat is docked, no nautical activities are planned. Samana Bay

Set in the heart of the Dominican Republic, the Samaná peninsula reveals a more secret and unspoiled side to the country.
