The most sought-after countries for a destination wedding

When deciding on a destination wedding, choosing the country to wed is the most important factor. In 2023, it’s common for people to turn to social media for inspiration. This way, you can get a feel for the ambience of the destination, see any trending places and also find locations that you may not have considered before.

With this in mind, we’ve scrolled through social media to find the country with the most wedding Pinterest boards, TikTok hashtag views and Instagram stats, so you don’t have to. The results are in…

1. Greece is the most sought-after country to get married

From the white landscapes of Santorini to the movie magic of Skopelos that’ll have your guests exclaiming “Mamma mia”, it’s no surprise that Greece has taken the crown as the most sought-after wedding destination.

Greece achieved an impressive score of 92 out of 100 in our study, the highest of all countries analysed. It seems that nearly-weds can’t get enough of Greece, with ‘weddings in Greece’ being searched for 265,510 times online in the past year, a whopping 16% increase from previous years. Greece has also been catching the eyes of admirers on TikTok, with #greecewedding receiving 66.2 million views.

The best cities, islands and states for honeymoons this year

When looking for a specific location for a honeymoon, you can look for a city, an island escape, or even explore the states of the U.S.

The world truly is your oyster, as when it comes to the most popular honeymoon destinations, they really do span the globe.

• Paris is the world’s most popular city for a honeymoon
It comes as no surprise that the ‘City of Love’ takes the number one spot as the world's most popular city for a honeymoon, with an overall score of 84 out of 100. ‘Paris honeymoon’ received 49,800 online searches in the past year, a 26% increase from previous years, proving the French capital is well and truly trending.

• Bali is the second most popular honeymoon hotspot
Proving popular with both nearly-weds and newly-weds, it’s not surprising that Bali is the second most popular honeymoon location, scoring 80 out of 100. With 186,560 online searches for ‘Bali honeymoon’ in the past 12 months, Bali has the highest search volume of all analysed. The province also has the most Instagram posts, with 101,000 images shared by love birds on their travels.

• The city of Cancun is the third most popular honeymoon destination
We then fly across the world to Cancun, Mexico, the third most popular honeymoon destination, with an overall score of 79 out of 100. This destination is highly popular on honeymoon TikTok, with a huge 9.2 million views on related hashtags. Similarly, Instagram is no stranger to a Cancun picture either, with 1,000 posts on hashtags regarding the topic. Cancun honeymoons received 23,180 online searches this year, which is a 6% increase from previous years.

Methodology

We used search volumes and social media data to find the most popular wedding and honeymoon destinations. Additionally, we looked in Tripadvisor stats and ranked the destinations on the below 7 data points:

● Search volume increase/decrease in the last 12 months
● Number of Pinterest boards (e.g. Japan wedding)
● Number of Instagram hashtags (e.g. Japan wedding)
