Jamie in Serre-Chevalier
Discover what Jamie Nicholls got up to with his family on their trip to Club Med Serre-Chevalier.

About Jamie
Growing up in Queensbury, Bradford in West Yorkshire, Jamie, a young sports enthusiast, casually dabbled in cricket, rugby, and football. However, it was at six years old, when watching snowboarding on TV, that a spark ignited. Living near a snowflex slope in Halifax, Jamie seized the chance to dive into snowboarding at age seven. Evening sessions at the dry slope after school soon turned into a deep passion. By 15, his dedication led to being selected for Team GB, competing at the World Cup and two Winter Olympics. Jamie's journey from a plastic hill in Halifax to the global stage showcases the enduring power of passion, proving that when you love what you do, the surface is just a detail. The adventure continues, 24 years on.

Summary
Incredible, entertaining and easy family ski/snowboard holiday pretty much sums up our amazing week with Club Med in Serre Chevalier with my wife, our two daughters and their grandparents. So much so, that going forward I can’t actually see us taking our family ski holidays with anyone else.

What were the childcare facilities like?
As most parents know, ski holidays can involve quite a bit of sorting the kids out everyday and keeping them entertained on all the in-between skiing bits, but Club Med’s organisation, attention to detail and childcare and children’s entertainment show they really have thought of everything. From the family play rooms, to the kids mini club, and baby childcare, to all the baby bottle cleaning and changing facilities open for use at all hours, and even the rocking horses and table tennis in the afternoon tea areas, it all adds up to making happy little people, who are loving every minute of their holiday as much as we are. We even had some super nice age appropriate (for our 1 year old and 5 year old) water colour and crayon kits delivered to our room to entertain them at dinner. A super nice touch!

What was the food and drink like?
Meal times offered so many options and we really were spoilt for choice in their allinclusive buffet style dining room. From the baby food to the kids food to the extensive choice for more adventurous adults there’s so much delicious quality food. It was great for us as we are vegetarian, and the desserts were next level good. The restaurant is streaming with mountain sun light at breakfast and lunch time and a bubbling welcoming atmosphere at dinner.
After dinner our girls loved heading to the theatre for the evening entertainment and it was brilliant that the kids clubs got involved in performing in some of them, and we loved watching them get involved. And to top it off they ended the week with a professional dancing performance and fireworks. Best family ski holiday yet!

How was the accommodation at Serre-Chevalier?
Our room was an interconnecting family room so we could move easily between our room and the grandparents room, and the large double bed was super comfy. Complete with plenty of storage and his and her sinks, we were more than comfortable staying here. The housekeeping team were also brilliant when we needed an impromptu sheet change for our youngest and all so friendly and helpful.

What were the slopes like?
The slopes were ideal for our family! Serre Chevalier is a bit of a hidden gem for quieter family friendly slopes in the Alps, but add that the Club Med is set on the quieter side of the ski area next to a learning slope with a button lift and a short ski down to the Pontillas gondola it’s a really good find for quieter slopes. We made some fab family memories helping our girls practice their skiing and snowboarding on the button lift by the hotel, but there’s also a magic carpet lift for beginners at the top of the gondola which is also very convenient. The run down from the top of this gondola offers a blue and red run mix and also a green run, making it a great one to do as a family with beginners, but also has some pretty fun side hits for better skiers and snowboarders too.
The rest of the resort is a really great mix of tree run, powder opportunities, wide open runs, scenic tracks and even a park. We had a great time exploring it without the kids, knowing they were happy at mini club, or with their grandparents, swimming at the hotel or playing in the family room.

What were the ski facilities like at the resort?
The hotel really is properly ski in and ski out. It has convenient and aesthetic ski locker rooms ideally placed to access the slopes and the in-hotel ski rentals area (where the staff were amazing and fixed my snowboard for me after I damaged it on a rock), plus plenty of room to get your ski/snowboard kit on, and tools to sort your equipment yourself if you need to and a hot and cold drinks station right as you come in so you can help yourself to a drink straight from the slopes. The kids also have their own ski locker rooms so they can be taken out straight from mini club on their ski lessons and you can avoid getting all their boots on and off for them if you feel so inclined, as the fab and friendly staff are there to sort it all for them.
