Ephesus (1 day)

Recommended by the Discovery Centre.

The origins of the town are lost in legend. According to one tradition, it was founded by the queen of the Amazons, Ephos. The third-largest port of the ancient world after Rome and Alexandria, Ephesus was a cosmopolitan city where all kinds of beliefs came together. You can admire this ancient city, which was gradually silted up and is now almost 7 kms (4 miles) from the Aegean coast. The temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis was one of the seven wonders of the world, and the many marble monuments that embellish this Ionian city take you back through time. 9 kms to the east, perched on the hills, Sirince stands out with its beautiful stone houses. You'll lunch in this typical village amid vineyards and orchards, and then have time to stroll through its narrow streets. In the afternoon you'll visit the magnificent Isa Bey Mosque built in 1375, and round off this unforgettable day with a stop for shopping. From Halicarnassus to Bodrum (1/2 day)

Recommended by the Discovery Centre.

The Monte Carlo of the Aegean Sea, Bodrum stretches over two bays separated by the splendid St Peter's Castle. Lying at the end of a peninsula, the city of Bodrum was built on the site of the ancient town of Halicarnassus. You'll admire its mausoleum, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, and its castle, dating back to the knights of St John. Taste a genuine Turkish coffee and stroll through the towns's labyrinth of narrow streets. ● Transport by bus

Milas market (1/2 day)

The traditional Turkish houses of carved wood, and the Hungarian houses, are wonderful examples of local architecture. Milas is the second largest city in the province of Mugla, known for the traditional rugs that have been woven here since the 18th century. Discover one of the markets, the largest in the region, where colour mingles with the fragrance of the spices. Stroll between the stalls as your fancy guides you and enjoy the chance to meet local people and appreciate their traditions.

Pamukkale and Hierapolis (1 day)

Recommended by the Discovery Centre.

For lucky visitors to Pamukkale, nature has created a spectacular "cotton castle" of mysterious petrified waterfalls. Admire the fairytale cascade of waters rich in minerals forming strange petrified constructions of dazzling whiteness. The site's hot springs were used by the Romans for their therapeutic benefits. After lunch you'll explore Hierapolis, which rises majestically up from the cotton fields. Necropolises, temples, churches, thermal baths and the theatre built against the hill will reveal the secrets of this once great city and take you back to Roman times.
